HCM Definition & Meaning
Human Capital Management (HCM) refers to the people-management pipeline from the recruiting process all the way to long-term employee growth. Typically, HCM is the name of a department at a company with different sub-departments. One segment focuses on hiring & bringing in the best talent. Another segment is on-boarding new members and managing their day-to-day workflow. Another process is to manage long-term growth of people at a firm.
Typically, HCM is an umbrella term that refers to all elements of managing personnel at a firm in any capacity.
Examples:
- For my 3rd interview at the firm, I am going to need to call HCM and respond to questions from them
- When I have confusion about certain benefits at the firm, I have to reach out to our HCM department
- Our HCM department stepped in when Jane and Bob had a conflict last month
